Outstanding alumnus, Raj Beasla, honored as Top Dog

Raj Beasla, the senior director of service planning and design for Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E), graduated from the Lyles College of Engineering in 1989, earning his bachelor’s in electrical engineering with an emphasis in power systems. He first studied engineering in India, and after moving to the U.S. in 1984 was encouraged by the faculty at the Lyles College to continue his education.

Beasla first interviewed with PG&E at a job fair on campus, and he was offered a position as an electric planning engineer two months before graduating. Over the years, Beasla has gained a broad understanding of the company and proven to be a leader in the organization. His positions include working and leading in service planning, line maintenance and construction, substation group and corporate affairs.

In his most recent role, Beasla manages service planning and design organization, leading a team of more than 1,200 employees serving nearly 300 cities and counties from Bakersfield to Eureka. The group is responsible for new business and design work for reconstructing and building new systems.

Beasla has championed efforts to connect PG&E with his alma mater. He has also dedicated his time and energy to keeping the Lyles College at the forefront of the engineering community, supporting the college for many years and currently siting on its advisory board.

Beasla is active member of the community, involved with the Red Cross Central Valley, the Sikh Institute Fresno and the Fresno County Economic Development Corporation.

He has been married to his wife, Mandeep, for 26 years. They have two children, Sahib and Manraj.
