Faculty and students in Fresno State’s Lyles College of Engineering are working to find a solution to cleanse the high levels of salt from Central Valley agriculture and drinking water. By using a water desalination unit, the team hopes to have a process that removes salt and minerals resulting in quality water and salts that can be used in chemical processors.
“If successful, this process will be part of an overall saline water treatment system,” says Dr. Karl Longley, civil engineering professor and dean emeritus of the Lyles College. “If the Central Valley is to remain a viable economic unit, a solution must be found for its increasingly severe salt problem.”
